I shot with Marc Gurrola Photography and Exirus Photography. It was an opportunity we had to get together. And what do photographers do on a Saturday night? - They play with lighting setups! Wow! What a blast!
In this article I'm going to explain the lighting setup. Let me start by saying that this shoot was all improvised. I'm not going to claim that we planned the setup, ideas or equipment. That being said, I will describe what we did to achieve the lighting in these shots.

We used Marcos Gurrola's Photography lighting equipment. They are 4 1600 watt lights. Since these awesome lights have a 2 power output adjustment, we have to move the light back or forward to affect the spill and brightness of the subject.
I first placed a 3 lighting setup. 1 source on top of camera and 2 lights on sides of subject ( about 2ft behind subject). Marcos later added a White Lighting 1600 to shoot the wall to separate the subject from the wall.
Particle Effect: We used regular bottled water for the particle effect. All we did was count to 3 and Steve would throw the water from the palm of his hand.
Camera info:
- Canon 5dmkii
- Canon 16-35mm L 2.8
- iso 100
- Shutter 160
- Aperture 8 ( we played between 8 thru 13) 13 for a low key effect.
Note: The best way to get different lighting moods is by moving your light source. Our lights have modeling lamps which gives us an idea of what mood we are looking for.

Here is the lighting setup. It's a simple 4 light setup. 2 strobes on each side. 1 beauty dish top at 45 deg. 1 strobe shooting the wall behind the subjects.
